We warmly invite you to the unveiling of Genius Loci, an innovative site-responsive installation on Friday, 29th May 2026, at 19:00, located at Galerija DIC, Poljanska cesta 26, Ljubljana.

This fascinating exhibition will be accessible until 30th June 2026, Monday to Friday from 16:00 to 19:00, or by appointment.

Genius Loci draws inspiration from the ancient concept of the 'spirit of place.' The project explores this idea through the symbolism of a snake—an embodiment of sensibility, elusiveness, and non-human perception—shifting it from the mystical to an almost analytical spectrum. The installation scrutinizes the phenomenon of space by measuring vibrations, traces, and temperature.

Born from experiences at the Dijaški dom Ivana Cankarja, this work reflects fragmented narratives that arise from daily presence, examining how the spirit of a place transcends architecture and human experience. It challenges the notion that the community of a space is purely anthropocentric, highlighting a network of relationships among bodies, animals, materials, sounds, and technology.

In this light, Genius Loci offers a perspective from a non-human viewpoint, conceptualizing space as a membrane sensitive to frequency, vibration, and subtle movements. Perhaps the story of a space is narrated not just by humans, but by animals, silicon, or the resonance of a membrane at 25 hertz.

Atej Tutta (1981) was a guest at DIC from 1996 to 2001 while attending the School of Design and Photography in Ljubljana. He later obtained his master’s degree from the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, where he also taught. His practice spans contemporary visual and performative art.
