Hello, Robot! 1-Day Hackathon with Viam and SPC
Join us for an exciting 1-day hackathon aimed at innovators eager to build practical AI applications! This event welcomes enthusiastic builders in NYC with software backgrounds, no prior robotics experience necessary. Get ready to dive into the world of physical AI!
What to Expect:
- Hands-on Robotics: Each team will work with a robot arm, fully set up and ready for action!
- Quickstart Tutorial: Kick off the day with a tutorial on the Viam software platform and your robot's capabilities.
- Mentorship: Receive guidance from dedicated mentors throughout the day.
- Equipment Provided: Teams will have access to:
- UFactory xArm or Universal Robotics arm with a two-finger gripper
- Linux computing machines
- RealSense D435 or Orbbec Astra 2 cameras
- Webcams
- Additional hardware (inquire when signing up)
Build Ideas:
Get creative! Here are suggested tasks to inspire you:
- Approachable: Pouring drinks, pick and place, drawing pictures
- Intermediate: Mixing cocktails, plugging in chargers, quality inspections
- Ambitious: Playing chess, interacting with humans, preparing fruits, folding clothes
Skills Needed:
While you don't need prior robotics experience, familiarity with the following is essential:
- Strong Coding Fundamentals: Proficiency in Python, Go, TypeScript/JavaScript, or C++.
- Linux Basics: Understanding how to SSH into the robot’s OS.
- JSON Configurations: Comfortably read and edit JSON files to connect components.
- Git Workflows: Ability to use Git for collaboration in a fast-paced environment.
- Bonus: Knowledge of pre-made AI/Vision models like YOLO can boost your project!
