Hailing from Philadelphia, Blake is not only a masterful musician and composer but also a brilliant bandleader. His captivating sound beautifully weaves together deep grooves, explosive energy, and extraordinary sensitivity. Being the son of acclaimed jazz violinist John Blake Jr., he embraced the drum kit at the tender age of 10, delving into the city’s rich jazz heritage before pursuing his studies at William Paterson University.

Blake has collaborated and recorded with some of the legends of jazz, including Pharoah Sanders, Ravi Coltrane, Tom Harrell, Chris Potter, Maria Schneider, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Kenny Barron, Roy Hargrove, and the Mingus Big Band. As a bandleader, his celebrated albums on Blue Note, such as Homeward Bound, Passage, and My Life Matters reflect his powerful compositional talent and emotional insights, merging rhythm, melody, legacy, and social consciousness through his art. 🎵
