Katma
★★★★ “Surrender to the pulse of a communal, high-octane, joy-fuelled dancefloor” – Time Out
★★★★ “A raw euphoric authenticity that is infectious and culturally rich” – Sydney Morning Herald
Co-created and directed by Azzam “Shazam” Mohamed and the Katma team, Katma is an extraordinary performance that encapsulates the electrifying essence of an underground dancefloor. Drawing inspiration from both the vibrant Sudanese and Australian party scenes, as well as iconic dance spaces like The Loft in New York, this immersive experience invites you into its world.
With no seats and the dancefloor at its heart, Katma unfolds like a living club ritual. Developed at PYT Fairfield in Western Sydney, the work celebrates the vibrancy and inclusivity of its local community. Seven talented dancers navigate a dynamic blend of street and club styles, flowing between solo expressions and collective rhythms as the atmosphere fills with movement and sound.
Part performance, part dancefloor, Katma beckons audiences to dive into the heart of the club, to witness, move, and feel the pulse of a living culture.
