Embark on a unique musical journey with Lines in the Water, where the genuine sounds of New York Harbor intertwine with captivating maritime tales! 🎵✨ This extraordinary performance creatively blends real-time maps, weather data, and live signals from the harbor, transforming its auditory landscape into a mesmerizing and dynamic musical piece.
Lines in the Water delicately balances two realms of maritime existence. On one side, we utilize measurable data—currents, radio alerts, and weather forecasts—essential for navigation. On the other, we explore the enigmatic allure of the unknown and the countless mystic sea stories that have arisen over time.
This site-specific composition integrates historical maritime records with contemporary data from New York Harbor. Utilizing archival materials and signals, I will influence traditional notation and develop graphic scores for the performers. The piece will also integrate recordings from various maritime locations, shaping the rhythmic and harmonic structure of the composition. In real time, data such as wind direction and radio frequencies will guide the spatial sound dynamics, grounding the performance in the current moment of the harbor.
Join us before the performance for refreshments at 1 PM, followed by the show at 2 PM, which will conclude with a brief Q&A session with the artists! 🥳
