Paterson Underground Railroad & Historic Marker Trail

About the event

Join Us for a Significant Historical Event! 🌟

Paterson played a crucial role as a documented “station” on the Underground Railroad, where brave local abolitionists risked everything to aid freedom seekers on their path to Canada. Among those pivotal figures was industrialist Josiah P. Huntoon, whose residence at Broadway and Bridge Street, famously known as “Huntoon’s Corner”, was a critical link in this network.

This inspiring program will include the unveiling of the City’s new Historic Marker Trail, formally recognizing Paterson’s vital contributions to the Underground Railroad and the extraordinary individuals involved, such as Black engineer William Van Rensalier and local leaders John and Harriet Kline and Henry and Mary Low.

Presented by esteemed historians Jimmy Richardson and Flavia Alaya, along with Gianfranco Archimede, Executive Director of the Paterson Historic Preservation Commission.
