Rooftop Season Opening: Right to Flight

About the event

Join us for an enchanting evening under the stars at Noo Arts as we kick off the 7th round of our WE ARE NATURE summer series! โœจ Right to Flight invites you to explore the poignant question: Who is the city for? Led by Dr. Harriet Harriss, a renowned international author, architect, and professor at Pratt Institute, this rooftop installation features a unique collaboration with fashion and textile designer Brooke Garner, artist Leslie Ruckman, and dedicated students from the Pratt MS Historic Preservation Program.

๐ŸŒ A Collective Ritual: Experience a breathtaking sculptural birdbox installation that raises awareness for our avian friends, highlighting the tragic loss of hundreds of thousands of migratory birds in NYC. The skyline will glow with Dr. Harrissโ€™s artistic vision, complemented by a human-size grief nest filled with heartfelt community messages and memorials crafted by Leslie Ruckman.

๐ŸŽถ Live Music: As the sun sets, enjoy enchanting melodies by Celine du Tertre, inspired by four extinct migratory birds. Dancer Mariko Endo will lead the audience in a collective movement, symbolizing our interconnectedness with wildlife.

๐Ÿค Land Acknowledgement: We honor the land with a message from Jeffrey Hogrefe, Oglala Lakota Sundance elder, underscoring the importance of interspecies care.

๐ŸŒฟ Installation Details: The birdhouses, crafted from Baltic birch and designed after iconic NYC skyscrapers, represent a beautiful union of art and activism. This project, funded generously by the JFM Foundation, will remain on view throughout the summer.
