SF Marina Tour-Panama Pacific Int'l.Exposition of 1915, from Scott St. entrance

Note: This tour explores one of the greatest architectural and artistic achievements in history, created in San Francisco's Marina area in just two years (1913 & 1914). 🏛️✨

While we have remnants like Bernard Maybeck's Palace of Fine Arts and the California Palace of the Legion of Honor, much of what existed in 1915 is captured only in photos, drawings, and written accounts. However, the land remains accessible, allowing us to virtually recreate the experience in our minds. 🖼️📜

Join us on this journey into the world of art and architecture as we imagine ourselves in 1915, touring the Panama Pacific International Exposition—a cultural phenomenon conceived by Willis Polk in 1891. Despite the challenges of the 1906 Earthquake and the onset of World War I, the Exposition attracted a quarter of a million visitors on opening day and nearly double that on closing day. 🎉🌍

As we walk a likely route from 1915, we will take turns reading descriptions and viewing photos of the landmarks along our path. This tour will provide a unique perspective, distinct from previous tours, while laying the groundwork for more detailed explorations in the future.
