Solar Eclipse Hike to Sophienalpe

Join a group of like-minded hikers for a beginner-friendly after-work evening hike just outside Vienna! Experience one of the deepest partial solar eclipses visible from Austria since 1999, where the Moon will cover roughly 80–90% of the Sun, leaving only a thin crescent of sunlight visible shortly before sunset.

• Starting Point: Hütteldorf (U4) station
• Destination: Sophienalpe (477 m) in the Vienna Woods (Wienerwald)
• Ticket Price: €3 (includes ISO 12312-2 certified paper eclipse glasses)

🤔 FITNESS REQUIREMENTS: EASY 🟢
This hike is suitable for most people with a basic level of fitness. You should be comfortable walking around 10-15 km with up to 400 m of elevation gain and descent at a relaxed pace. No previous mountain hiking experience is required, but good footwear and preparation for changing weather conditions are recommended.

• Observation of the solar eclipse and sunset from this excellent vantage point.

After sunset, we will descend through the forest along a different route and return to Hütteldorf station.
