Join us at the renowned South Street Seaport Museum for an exciting event, Parade of Ships: From George Washington to Sail4th 250! 🗽 Set against the backdrop of New York City’s rich maritime heritage, this program promises to be a captivating exploration of over two centuries of civic celebrations at the waterfront.

💡 What to Expect:

  • Enjoy FREE admission to the landmark exhibition, The Promise of Liberty: Words That Shaped a Nation, which showcases pivotal documents and moments that have shaped American history.
  • Historian Robert Snyder will kick off the presentations with a fascinating discussion on the maritime aspects of the American Revolution, especially focusing on New York Harbor's pivotal role in the conflict! ⚓ He’ll dive into how this iconic city's identity as an archipelago influenced military strategy and daily life during the Revolutionary era.
  • Following that, Martina Caruso, the Museum's Director of Collections and Exhibitions, will share insights derived from her Collections Chronicles blog, reflecting on New York Harbor’s legacy as a stage for grand maritime events, including the historic reception of President George Washington in 1789 and celebrated Operation Sail events of 1964, 1976, and 1986. 📸 Expect stunning photographs and footage from the Museum’s archives!
  • Don’t miss a special screening of digitized footage from the 1976 Bicentennial OpSail—one of the largest maritime celebrations in New York's history! 🎉

👥 After the presentations, there will be a moderated discussion and Q&A session addressing the vital role of New York Harbor in national celebrations and maritime legacy. Pre-registration is encouraged, but walkups will be accommodated as possible.
