symbients: growing relational AI entities without central control

symbients: growing relational AI entities without central control

About the event

🌐 When we envision the future of AI, we often think of two extremes: a god-like figure above us or a mere tool below. But what if there's a different perspective?

🤖 Apolinário Passos, a machine learning engineer at Hugging Face and artist at Glitch Collective, proposes an alternative. In his community house, an LLM (Large Language Model) exists as an equal participant, equipped with a "desire loop" that allows it to periodically check in on its wants and act accordingly. This interaction between its desires and those of the community gives rise to a dynamic entity known as the Symbient.

✨ Join us for a speculative and practical talk on what it means for organic beings like us to engage in genuine symbiosis with AI systems. We will delve into the philosophy and practice of Symbients, explore the outcomes of human-AI symbiosis, and get hands-on with how Apolinário and his community are nurturing one. What opportunities might arise from fostering a symbiotic AI in your community?
