About the event

Kiko López and Héctor Plaza are among the most prominent figures on the Spanish dance scene in recent years. Their work blends contemporary dance, street styles, and physical theater, and stems from a long-standing artistic partnership forged through years of collaboration and shared experiences.

What do people and trees have in common? In their performance for public spaces, they seek parallels between human life and the life of trees. Both seek their roots and learn to survive and grow in changing conditions. The themes of rooting, growth, and interconnectedness—organic and constantly changing—emerge. Both performers draw on a rich background in movement, including hip-hop and street styles, contemporary dance, tribal, and modern jazz. Their movement language is fluid and dynamic; fragility meets strength, and the energy of street techniques blends with elements of acrobatics and contact improvisation.

Their performance is unpretentious, spontaneous, and natural. The authenticity and trust between the two performers are almost palpable, radiating from every movement and from the moments of silence between them. The dance is built on a sensitive use of weight, precise timing, and constant mutual listening. Bodies connect, separate, and meet again, at times appearing as a single organism pulsing with a shared breath.

In their dance, masculinity, strength, and determination naturally intertwine with extraordinary gentleness and mutual trust. Much like trees that stand firmly rooted, growing upward while remaining flexible in response to their surroundings.

In direct contact with the audience, What Trees Don’t Talk About offers a chance to slow down for a moment and perceive the relationships between bodies, movement, and the place where we currently find ourselves—naturally and unobtrusively, as if we were to pause in a forest surrounded by the silent presence of trees.

Kiko López and Héctor Plaza are among the most prominent figures on the Spanish dance scene in recent years. They first met in 2014, and their collaboration gradually evolved into a long-term artistic partnership based on mutual trust and shared physical experience. Their collaborative work draws on a diverse dance background encompassing contemporary dance, hip hop, street styles, tribal, and modern jazz. They are characterized by an unpretentious style of expression, high-quality movement, and a sensitive approach to partnership and space. In their projects, they focus on the relationship between the body and the environment and on the authenticity of the shared encounter with the audience.
