THE LOVE THAT REMAINS | New Nordic Cinema
Join us for a screening of Icelandic director Hlynur Pálmason’s tender and quirky family drama, The Love That Remains! 🎥
This poignant film navigates the gradual evolution of a family facing an irreparable fracture, all while observing life’s changes with humor and whimsy against the breathtaking backdrop of the Icelandic landscape. 🏞️
Visual artist Anna (Saga Garðarsdóttir) and fisherman Magnús (Sverrir Guðnason), once teenage sweethearts, now find themselves growing apart, leading to Magnús moving out. As long as they maintain a brave face, the kids—and their lovable sheepdog Panda (awarded the prestigious Palme Dog at Cannes)—seem to handle the situation well. 🐶 However, as Magnús becomes more alienated, the underlying tensions of reality inevitably begin to surface.
Hlynur Pálmason’s follow-up to his austere 19th-century drama Godland is described as a continuously surprising experience, characterized by immaculate framing, pacing, and a soulful piano score by Harry Hunt, all complemented by whimsical idiosyncrasies that never overshadow the film's emotional authenticity. 💖
