The Pilot Dance Project, celebrated for its immersive and community-centered performances, invites you to experience its first repertory concert in five years, Prince of Flowers!
This captivating event showcases new dance creations by talented artists Adam Castañeda, Ashley Horn, and Julie Rubio, alongside special performances by the Houston Met Dance’s esteemed ensembles, TerraForm(ed) Collective and the Houston Met Dance Adult Ballet Ensemble.
Highlights of the Performance:
- “Coatlicue”: A powerful trio inspired by Chicana feminist Gloria Anzaldua’s Borderlands/La Frontera, reflecting on the Aztec mother goddess and the necessity of her power in today’s society. Accompanied by an original score from the renowned Sonia Flores of Aurum Son.
- “Prince of Flowers”: An intricate solo blending dance, visual arts, music, and costume design. Collaborating artists, including Adam Castañeda, Ashley Horn, Lynn Lane, and Sonia Flores, explore a character inspired by the vibrant national flowers of Mexico, such as poinsettias and marigolds.
- “Carpel”: Choreographed by Ashley Horn, this piece depicts the essence of Everywoman—the unseen labor that binds everything together and often goes unacknowledged.
- “En Transito”: A collaboration between Adam Castañeda and Julie Rubio, portraying the various transitions of womanhood and evolving communities through a beautiful, romantic Latinx lens. Supported by the Let Creativity Happen! Grant from the City of Houston via the Houston Arts Alliance.
Be prepared for a night filled with emotion, creativity, and community! 🌟
