There are no others: write-in answers to ‘Any other ethnicity’ from the 2021 Census

Have you ever wondered what ‘other’ ethnicities are?
In this workshop, we will start with an introductory presentation using open-access census data from the ONS, to unlock the write-in answers provided when people select ‘Any other ethnicity’. Participants will then engage in a hands-on, art-based workshop using collage and drawing exploring the diverse nature of identity. Following the art workshop, participants will be invited to a brief discussion on identity and representation.
The workshop aims to surface cultural diversity through visual data, exploring which voices are missing and how we/they can be represented. We hope participants leave with a greater awareness of the ethnic diversity within our community, feeling empowered in their own identity and a sense of belonging in a multi-ethnic society, regardless of their background.
