About the event

About This Event:

Sing For Your Supper is a unique participatory dinner experience crafted by artist Hannah Sullivan, where song becomes currency that can be exchanged for a delicious hot meal. Inspired by the rich culture of folk songs, this event celebrates the intrinsic value of song and singing.

Every dinner guest will take turns singing one song before we share in the meal together. All kinds of songs are welcome — from pop hits to nursery rhymes, folk classics, and even acapella alt rock! This is more than just singing; it’s an opportunity to learn a beloved song and perform it for others. 🚫 No instruments. 📵 No phones.

Hannah draws from her experiences of communal singing in pubs, aiming to create a space where we can practice singing for one another. This communal effort enriches our future gatherings! Your song is a cherished contribution to the table.

Sing For Your Supper originally began in Hannah’s home and has since expanded to cafes, cottages, and community centers. It emerged from her research project, 'The Song, The Singer and The Listener,' funded by The Culture Capital Exchange in collaboration with Dr. Una McIlvenna. To dive deeper into the research, check out her blog: The Song, The Singer and The Listener.

‘I feel lucky to have been part of it. It is hard to imagine that there was a time where everyone sang.’ - Rosy, Sing For Your Supper guest.

‘We didn't know what to expect, just prepared a song and practiced...what a wonderful, friendly, warm evening.’ - Dieter, Sing For Your Supper guest.

Hosted by artist-turned-shopkeeper Rachael Clerke, Transactionland pushes back against the notion that economics is only for the elite. Why leave it to the men in suits to dictate the systems that govern our lives?

Join us in shopping 'til you drop alongside a jam-packed program of conversations, workshops, performances, and more, featuring guest artists on the tills! 🛒
