Wassail with Beggars' Oak Clog at Wightwick Manor and Gardens

About the event

🌳 Join us this half term for a festive celebration of an age-old tradition - Wassailing!

Experience the vibrant joy of this Anglo-Saxon custom designed to wish health and prosperity upon apple trees, ensuring they "grow well and bear well" for the upcoming year.

πŸŽ‰ Event Highlights:

  • The festivities kick off outside the tearoom with traditional folk dances performed by the Beggars' Oak Clog Dancers from Armitage, Staffordshire.
  • Enjoy live music as the dancers perform delightful routines from the North West of England.
  • After their lively show, everyone will be invited to take part in the noise-making tradition - feel free to bring your own pots and pans!
  • The dancers will lead us to the South Terrace and over to the Tennis Lawn cherry tree for the traditional wassail ritual, which includes whipping the tree and pouring cider to ensure a fruitful harvest.

This event is a fantastic mix of music, dance, and folklore, perfect for celebrating the winter season and welcoming the new year!
