Join us for an exhibition that explores acts of maintenance across the Asia-Pacific region, examining gestures such as erasing, washing, ordering, and archiving. These actions are not neutral; they are intertwined with systems of power and care, reflecting processes of selection and transformation related to governance, modernization, and spatial control.

In postcolonial contexts, these gestures gain urgency, addressing issues like the regulation of street economies, the clearing of informal settlements, and the disciplining of public spaces. The exhibition highlights the duality of restoration and repression, intimacy and control, manifesting in both domestic caregiving and state-led urban renewal campaigns.

Artistic practices throughout the exhibition make these conditions tangible. Works by artists such as Alecia Neo and Delia Prvački focus on care, endurance, and repetition, while Sutee Kunavichayanont and Wang Guofeng delve into historical and political narratives. Maharani Mancanagara and Nurrachmat Widyasena raise questions of memory and erasure, and Debbie Ding and Colin Villapa reflect on urban space, trace, and residue. Central questions arise around what is removed, what remains, and who determines these conditions, revealing how acts of removal can also expose what resists being erased.
