What Makes a Transition Plan Credible?

How should investors, regulators, and companies assess whether a corporate transition plan is genuinely credible?
Despite rapid growth in climate-related standards, targets, and disclosure frameworks, uncertainty remains over whether many transition plans are plausible, decision-useful, or likely to be delivered in practice.
This session will explore whether high level principles can provide a clearer and more practical first-pass test of transition-plan credibility. Marking the launch of the Second Edition of the Oxford Martin Principles for Climate Conscious Investment, the discussion will examine three core conditions for credible transition planning: commitment to net zero, a viable net zero business model, and quantitative medium-term targets.
The session will bring together perspectives from investment, industry, standards, and academia to discuss how credibility can be assessed across sectors and transition pathways in an increasingly complex policy and reporting landscape.
