Narrative Painting: How to Personify Objects Artist-led workshop with April Werle

Join us for a captivating workshop where participants will delve into the art of narrative painting! 🖌️ Discover how contemporary figurative painters use motifs, personification, and color to craft compelling narratives within their artwork.

Through guided analysis of current artists' work, you will conjure up your own narrative concept and compositional approach, culminating in a small acrylic painting on paper. 🌈 Using a limited duo-chrome palette, learn how intentional color choices enhance emotional tone and storytelling.

About the Artist

April Werle (b. 1995, Helena, Montana) is a narrative painter whose captivating works depict mixed-race identity, memory, and diaspora through magical realism and intimate domestic scenes.

Solo exhibitions include:

Additionally, her work has been showcased at Brea Gallery and the Montana Museum of Art and Culture. April has completed residencies at PlatteForum and the Emerging Artist Residency at Centrum Foundation. She has received multiple awards, including the Creative West Artist Fund Award and grants from the Montana Arts Council. Her artworks have been featured in New American Paintings and Create! Magazine.
