Wayne State Faculty Concert & Session

Join us for the 17th year of J.C. Heard JazzWeek@Wayne at Wayne State University! High school students will gain an incredible jazz education experience during our one-week workshop, supported by the Detroit Jazz Festival Foundation and Wayne State University Department of Music.

Approximately 40 talented students will be selected through competitive auditions to participate in this tuition-free program. We are thrilled to welcome Shannon Powell, a New Orleans luminary, as our guest Educator-in-Residence, where he will teach traditional New Orleans jazz and second-line styles, repertoire, and history.

🎤 Open Jam Session kicks off at 9:30 PM. Students and musicians get in free when they bring their instruments!

Join us for special LIVE Community JazzWeek events at Cliff Bell’s Jazz Club. Performances are at 7:30 PM & 9:30 PM, with doors opening at 5 PM for dinner. Seatings begin at 6 PM for the “Dinner & a Show” experience.
