Join us for an energetic and joyful evening of Contra Dance at Tapestry Folkdance Center! This lively, social dance tradition is easy to learn and perfect for all ages.

What Is Contra Dance?

Contra dancing is guided by a caller who teaches the steps through a friendly walk-through. You'll learn the dance alongside others, dancing to upbeat music as the caller directs the group. The figures resemble old-time square dancing, but they are typically performed in long-ways sets with partners facing each other in lines down the hall!

What Is Contra Dance Music?

Experience the rich, traditional acoustic sounds of contra dance music, often featuring fiddles and other lively instruments. Enjoy live music every Saturday night from talented local musicians and occasional guest bands, with influences from New England, French Canadian, Irish, Scottish, Cape Breton, and modern compositions.
