Join us at Collective Z for an insightful evening featuring Fatemeh Jamalpour and Nilo Tabrizy, the authors behind For the Sun After Long Nights: The Story of Iran's Women-Led Uprising (Pantheon) — a title longlisted for the National Book Award. 🏆
They will engage in a conversation moderated by Sahar Delijani, acclaimed novelist and author of Children of the Jacaranda Tree, who has a poignant connection to this subject as she was born inside Tehran's Evin Prison.
This talk is set against the backdrop of Conviction, an exhibition by Haleh Atabeigi, showcasing powerful paintings that bear witness to women held as political prisoners in Iran. 🎨
Fatemeh Jamalpour has reported from the streets of Tehran during the Woman, Life, Freedom uprising sparked by the tragic death of Mahsa Jina Amini. Despite facing interrogations and the threat of imprisonment, her determination shines through. Nilo Tabrizy, now an investigative reporter for The Washington Post, monitored these pivotal events from the U.S., fully aware that her reporting could jeopardize her safety upon return.
Their book intertwines both perspectives, offering a firsthand account of the largest protests Iran has seen in years, revealing the voices of women who are crucial to this narrative.
As the walls display paintings of female figures unable to appear before us — including Nobel laureate Narges Mohammadi and journalists Niloofar Hamedi and Elaheh Mohammadi, who remain imprisoned for their courage — the evening promises a unique duality of witness.
Included in the evening's agenda are a reading, the conversation, and a chance for audience questions. The exhibition will be open for you to walk through both before and after the event. 🌟
Free copies of the book will be provided — be sure to RSVP to reserve one! Enjoy complimentary wine as well! 🍷
🌟 Space is limited — please RSVP here to secure your spot! 🌟
