Crossing Film Screening of "Zhou" Rong Xin Book Launch
🎬 Crossing
Zhou (2026) is a documentary film by Ryan Muchen Wang that focuses on the journey of a Chinese migrant traveling to the United States through Zouxian (走线), crossing the Darién Gap between Colombia and Panama. This film combines participant-recorded mobile phone footage, interviews, and observational scenes from everyday life, highlighting one individual's experience before, during, and after the migration journey. Developed over two years through a continuous relationship between the filmmaker and participant, Zhou reflects on migration as an ongoing process that reshapes memory, identity, and one’s relationship to place.
Footage from Zhou along with Ryan’s reflective writings are featured in the new artist publication Rongxin(荣欣). This book uses Flushing’s Rongxin Plaza as a metaphor to explore this unique community through the lens of 10 artists. This event marks the publication's first public unveiling and will feature a conversation between Hetian Guo (editor of Rongxin) and Ryan Muchen Wang, followed by an open Q&A with the audience.
🕒 Schedule:

Bio:
Ryan Muchen Wang is an artist and filmmaker working across video, installation, and essayistic writing. His practice engages with human mobility as lived experience, shaped by displacement, migration, and travel. By drawing from personal and collective histories of movement, he examines how memory fractures and reforms across real and constructed pasts. Through documentary, experimental video, and stop-motion animation, Wang traces the accented structures of feeling in the unfolding of the everyday, bridging transit and separation, homeland and hostland. He received his MFA in Visual Arts from Columbia University.
