But that would overlook the fact that DROWNED are the longest-running of these bands. And that the release date of a new album, only their second, is more special than a World Cup final. You'd have to keep tally sheets outside the delivery rooms, exactly nine months later. Although the band is compared to practically everything else that has been released on their label, they have retained their very own groove: anyone who liked “Idola Specus” will love “Procul His.” The vocal lines are more arrhythmic, the riffs more morbid, the atmosphere dirtier. Patrick Engel (Temple Of Disharmony) has created a reverb-poor garage sound that spreads a Chapel Of Ghouls vibe from the first to the last second and sounds as old-school dirty as it does spacious and mature. Consisting of 6 songs with the first one being an instrumental intro, “Fiery Paths” is a very convincing effort on all levels. Notwithstanding the fact INFERNAL PRESENCE has only been active for 2 years, their hybrid of Black- and Death Metal sounds as if it had been composed by a seasoned band. Unlike many outfits whose songs consist of a salad of riffs randomly thrown together, INFERNAL PRESENCE are apt at cleverly composing their material by frequently alternating between different tempi and moods.
