Echoes in the Night: Discovering Our Local Bats
Join us for an enlightening exploration of the fascinating world of bats! 🐾 Learn about local species, their vital ecological roles, and utilize acoustic monitoring technology to listen for these nocturnal marvels.
Bats are essential for maintaining healthy ecosystems, serving as natural pest controllers, pollinators, and seed dispersers. Remarkably, they represent over 20% of mammal species worldwide. However, these unique creatures face threats from diseases, habitat loss, and climate change, leading to declining populations.
Led by Samantha Cronk, Natural Resource Technician for the Westchester County Parks Conservation Division, you'll gain insights into why bats are so important. We'll venture outdoors to observe bats in their natural habitat and use specialized microphones to identify the species we encounter! 🦇✨
