Hummingbird Banding

Join us as a volunteer for an exciting opportunity to monitor hummingbirds! 🐦✨ Get up close and personal with these amazing creatures while contributing to a regional biodiversity study spanning the USA, Canada, and Mexico. Your efforts will support the Hummingbird Monitoring Network’s multi-year investigation into the distribution, migration, and diversity of hummingbirds. 🕊️

Volunteer Roles:

• Feeder Maintenance: Help maintain 5 hummingbird feeders at the PAO monitoring site (cleaned and refilled twice a week from early March through early October).
• Recorder: Requires legible handwriting, the ability to accurately transcribe data, and basic computer skills.
• Trapper: Good hand-eye coordination is essential for this role.
• Feeder/Releaser: On busy days, feed and release the birds after processing.

General Information:

No experience is necessary; training will be provided at the start. Volunteers must be U.S. citizens, at least 18 years old, or accompanied by an adult if under 18. All are welcome during banding sessions.
