The June Jordan Salon serves as a vibrant space for intentional conversation about art, culture, and political thought.

The inspiration for these salons in Harlem stems from a desire for a more intentional creative community, echoing the lush gatherings of The Dark Tower Salon hosted by A’Lelia Walker, the queer daughter of Madam CJ Walker. 🌈 A’Lelia, celebrated as the “Joy Goddess of Harlem” by Langston Hughes, brought together influential figures in Black politics, arts, and literature during what we now recognize as The Harlem Renaissance.

Her home on 136th St (now the Countee Cullen NYPL) welcomed luminaries such as Langston Hughes, W.E.B. Du Bois, Zora Neale Hurston, and many more. Fast forward a century, and the June Jordan Salon is a modern ritual, reigniting networks of radical culture and movement communities today. ✊💫
