Jaroslav Spurný, co-founder of the weekly Respekt, is, for most people, above all a legend of investigative journalism. In an interview with his younger colleague Jindřich Šídlo, he looks back on the major scandals that have shaken Czech society for decades and offers a glimpse into his personal life.
His life has always been marked by a search for external and internal freedom and the need to defend justice. The interview traces Spurný’s journey from the adventurous life of a “hippie” behind the Iron Curtain, through his work in samizdat and the underground, the founding of Respekt after the 1989 revolution, and decades of investigative work on its editorial staff, right up to his still-active present.
The discussion between Jaroslav Spurný and Jindřich Šídlo will be moderated by Barbora Kroužková.
