Lilian Redstone Celebration Day: Discover Suffolk's Archives

Join us to honor Lilian Redstone MBE BA (1885–1955), a pioneer in the field of archival work in Suffolk! 🏛️

In the early 1900s, she was one of the first women to turn history into a profession, working with medieval documents and manuscripts to research, transcribe, and share local histories. Thanks to her efforts, the first county record offices were established in Bury St Edmunds and Ipswich. 🌟

Our archivist team will showcase some treasures from our collections, and during a panel discussion, they will share insights into their experiences and the significance of archival work today. We are thrilled to welcome Emeritus Professor Elizabeth Shepherd as a special guest, who will discuss her recent research on pioneering female archivists like Lilian. 🎤
