This series is designed for those who have always wanted to dive into classic literature but may have felt intimidated by the size, reputation, or complexity of these works.

Join us for a six-week guided reading series on Leo Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina, a sweeping novel exploring love, marriage, family, faith, and the pressures of Russian society.

Each week, you’ll progress through the novel with structure, context, and conversation. You’ll gain insights into the narrative, appreciate its significance, and experience the book without the pressure of figuring it all out alone.

📅 Schedule:

Over six Monday evenings, we’ll cover the novel in roughly equal sections:

• September 28: Part 1
• October 5: Part 2 and Part 3, Chapters 1–10
• October 12: Part 3, Chapter 11 through Part 4
• October 19: Part 5 and Part 6, Chapters 1–7
• October 26: Part 6, Chapter 8 through Part 7, Chapter 8
• November 2: Part 7, Chapter 9 through Part 8

Each two-hour session, from 6–8 p.m., will combine lecture, guided discussion, and close reading of the text.

👨‍🏫 Your Instructor: Theodore Yurevitch

The series will be led by Theodore Yurevitch, Associate Professor in the Department of Composition and Literary Studies at Austin Community College.

Theo holds an MA in English from Vanderbilt and an MFA in Creative Writing from Florida State University. His academic background includes Early Modern English literature, nineteenth-century literature, and the novel. He is particularly interested in how deep reading enhances writing skills.
