Requiem av Sofia Lärkfors hade sitt uruppförande i Uppenbarelsekyrkan i Hägersten för två dagar sedan. Kompositören har just avslutat sin masterutbildning i jazzkomposition vid Kungliga Musikhögskolan i Stockholm och har i sin grundutbildning studerat jazzsång. Hon har alltid haft en stadig fot i körsångens värld och är sedan länge medlem i Hägersten A Cappella.

Sofia Lärkfors har i sitt Requiem rösterna i fokus. Verket är skrivet för 8-stämmig kör, stråkkvintett och orgel. Kören och instrumenten har ett nära samspel, men stråkarna och orgeln har också solistiska inslag. Musiken reflekterar över världens oro med en underton av tonsättarens personliga sorg. Dock, påpekar Sofia Lärkfors, finns ändå en försiktig optimism och hoppfullhet invävd i musiken. Musiken tar avstamp i jazzens klangvärld med melodiska linjer som bildar en egen harmonik, stundtals komplex.

Texterna är hämtade från rekvietexterna. Några delar har bytts ut mot dikter av den finlandssvenska poeten Edit Södergran, för att lyfta och fördjupa innehållet i detta nyskrivna verk.

Requiem by Sofia Lärkfors received its world premiere at Uppenbarelsekyrkan in Hägersten two days ago. The composer has just completed her master's degree in jazz composition at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, and her undergraduate studies were in jazz singing. She has always had a firm footing in the world of choral music and has long been a member of Hägersten A Cappella.

In her Requiem, Sofia Lärkfors places the voices at the centre. The work is written for eight-part choir, string quintet and organ. The choir and instruments are in close dialogue, though the strings and organ also have soloistic moments. The music reflects on a world in turmoil, with an undercurrent of the composer's personal grief – yet, as Sofia Lärkfors emphasises, a cautious optimism and sense of hope are interwoven throughout. The music draws on the sonic world of jazz, with melodic lines forming their own harmony, at times complex.

The texts are drawn from the traditional Requiem. Several sections have been replaced by poems by the Finland-Swedish poet Edit Södergran, in order to deepen and enrich the content of this newly created work.
