Russ Cottee Blues in Britain Magazine “As the name suggests, 'Going Back Home' is Sparko's return to home turf, with two sets drawn chiefly from the Mark I and Mark 2 Dr Feelgood line-ups that featured Wilko Johnson and Gypie Mayo respectively on guitar.Guitarist/vocalist John Simpson has the Wilko chops off to a fine art, his Telecaster capturing Wilko's sharp, jagged tone, whilst giving more than a passing nod towards Gypie's lines on tracks from that period.Drummer Mat Hector (whose CV includes tours with Iggy Pop, Thomas Dolby and Marc Almond) faithfully delivers The Big Figure's breaks and fills with matching force. Inevitably ones ear and eyes are drawn towards the main man: it's been a while since I've seen and heard an old school bass rig that delivers the sound somewhere approaching the pit of your stomach- Sparkes' chordal playing on his vintage custom De Whally bass much in evidence. It’s only right and proper that an original member of a seminal '70s band receives recognition for the role he played in what's now acknowledged as the most important proto-punk band.”They'll be making sounds rooted in Canvey Island, if you know and love your Dr Feelgood, we think you're in for a treat!
