Späti Stories goes to the cinema!
Späti Stories is a Berlin-based newsletter, editorial and community platform that tells the stories of the people who shape this city.
We are partnering with our friends from Yorck Kinogruppe and screening one of our favorite movies at one of our favorite cinemas: Delphi Lux in Charlottenburg.

Join us for a screening of Wolfgang Becker's Good Bye, Lenin! in its original version with English subtitles (something that hasn't happened often for the past 20 years), followed by a 40-minute panel discussion on stage about how the 90s in Berlin still shape the city we live in today.
🍻 Doors open at 18:45 for mingling
🎬 Film starts at 19:30 at Hall 2
🎙️ Followed by a panel discussion when the film ends
🎟️ Your Luma ticket is your cinema ticket — show it at the door
🍿 20% off snacks & drinks voucher
Come say hi and watch a film with us. We are super excited!

The Film - Good Bye, Lenin!
East Berlin, 1989. Alex's mother, a devoted socialist, falls into a coma just before the Wall comes down. When she wakes up months later, doctors warn that any shock could be fatal. Alex sets out to keep the GDR alive — at least inside their apartment. What begins as a desperate act of love becomes a funny, moving reflection on what we hold onto when the world changes around us.
Good Bye, Lenin! premiered at the Berlinale in 2003, was produced by X Filme Creative Pool, and became one of the most successful and beloved German films of the 2000s. It remains one of the best entry points into understanding the complexity of reunification — told with warmth, humor, and a deeply human touch.

Why this film, why this discussion
The 90s are having a cultural moment. From fashion to film, from the OSTKREUZ exhibition Dream On — Berlin, the 90s at C/O Berlin to Berlinale's recent retrospective exploring East and West, this decade keeps resurfacing. And for good reason: it shaped everything about the Berlin we know today.
Good Bye, Lenin! captures that era with both heart and humor, making it the perfect starting point for a conversation about what the 90s left behind and what still lives on in the city. That's exactly what our panel will explore.

Meet the panel
After the screening, stay with us in the cinema room for a panel discussion with producer Stefan Arndt and photographer Maurice Weiss, moderated by Julia Schneider.
Stefan Arndt is a leading German film producer and co-founder of X Filme Creative Pool, the production company behind Good Bye, Lenin!, Lola rennt, Babylon Berlin, The Queen's Gambit, and Amour. He is also co-founder of X Verleih AG and a founding member of the German Film Academy. In 2003, he was named European Producer of the Year for Good Bye, Lenin!
Maurice Weiss is a French photographer born in Perpignan in 1964. He arrived in Berlin on the night the Wall fell, November 9, 1989, and never left. He documented the historic scenes unfolding on both sides of the Wall and has been chronicling Berlin's political and cultural transformation ever since. A member of OSTKREUZ since 1995, his work is part of the exhibition and book Dream On — Berlin, the 90s (C/O Berlin, Spector Books). He has since worked as a photographer for major international magazines and continues to live and work in Berlin.
Julia Schneider is a Berlin-based film moderator, event host, curator, and community builder working at the intersection of film, community, and Central & Eastern European culture. Born out of writing an events newsletter, she started Pierogi Social Club, a community-driven event series in Berlin that brings people together through Polish culture and cuisine. She moderates film events including at the Berlinale.

About Späti Stories
Späti Stories is a Berlin-based newsletter, editorial and community platform that tells the stories of the people who shape this city. We publish written interviews, neighborhood guides, and editorials. Always in English, always about real people, always rooted in the belief that the heart of Berlin is its humans. Named after Berlin's iconic Spätis — accessible, diverse, and open to everyone — we share the stories you don't usually hear. The ones full of creativity, resilience, and, because we need it, a lot of hope too.
