đ NOTE: TIME AND LOCATION CHANGE!
We will gather on Sunday, July 12 at 5:30 PM at Sheep Meadow in Central Park.
Dear members,
Join NYC Women in STEM for the third chapter of our Summer of Poetryâa delightful series focused on reading and discussing poetry. Whether youâre already familiar with our format or new to it, everyone is welcome to dive into this literary journey!
Poets like Rebecca Elson, James Clerk Maxwell, and Ada Lovelace explored the intersection of science and humanity through their poetic expressions. Immunologist Miroslav Holub noted the "uneasy relationship" between science and poetry, highlighting the suspicions scientists may hold towards poets. Perhaps many women in STEM conceal their poetic talents under layers of scientific tools.
These events are designed to inspire you to view the world through a poetic lens. Whether you're an avid reader or new to poetry, this is the perfect opportunity to connect with fellow literature lovers!
Every two weeks, we will delve into 3-5 selected poems, exploring both canon and contemporary works. Our guide will be An Introduction to Poetry by X. J. Kennedy and Dana Gioia. While owning the book isn't mandatory, we recommend finding a copy to enhance your experienceâused copies are available online at reasonable prices!
Meet us biweekly in Central Park until summer wraps up! Please note that heavy rain might postpone our gathering, so ensure you're subscribed for updates.
This group is open to all women, regardless of whether you're in STEM or simply have a passion for poetry!
