Svět zítřka: Marcela Hennlichová

A historian specializing in international relations, French foreign policy and presidential diplomacy, energy crises, and austerity measures. She works at the Institute of Philosophy of the Czech Academy of Sciences (Urbanita project) and at the Department of International Studies and Diplomacy at the University of Economics in Prague. She has been a long-term expert collaborator with Czech Television.

The energy crisis is one of the most significant threats of our time. Its nature and possible impacts can be understood through the historical experience of the city of Pilsen. As an important industrial center, Pilsen found itself in a catastrophic energy crisis during World War I. How did the energy shortage paralyze the functioning of the city, limiting industrial production and the daily lives of its inhabitants? Why did it result in widespread energy poverty in Pilsen at the time, and what does this mean today for our understanding of the energy crisis and its possible prevention in the future?
