Who gets to define AI risk?
When we talk about AI risk, we often picture two very different things: the sometimes slower, structural harms already unfolding in deployed systems (think: environmental degradation) — and the longer-horizon risks of systems that don't yet exist (think: superintelligence is coming for us all!). Both have passionate, serious advocates. But...they rarely talk to each other.
At this month's WISE meetup, we're asking: how do we hold both in the same conversation? What gets counted as harm, who gets to say so, and what happens when these framings are in tension?
There's no formal agenda and no panels. Instead, we'll have conversation starter cards dotted around for you to pick up, spark a debate, or break the ice with someone new. Come with your opinions and your questions!
