The annual Unlocked series returns with a special focus on America’s 250th anniversary. Each month, you'll have the chance to step inside unique pieces of rail history as we honor the achievements that helped shape our nation.
In 2026, commemorating this milestone, the American Freedom Train No. 1 will be accessible twice January and July, offering a rare glimpse into America’s rail heritage of freedom and innovation. Also, don’t miss the chance to explore the newly restored B&O No. 3316 “Washington” Observation Tavern Car!

  This month marks the 130th anniversary of the Royal Blue Line. Built by the Pullman Company around 1890 for the Delaware, Lackawanna, & Western Railroad, the No. 445 reflects a standard day coach of its time. After being rebuilt and repainted in 1927, it was designed to resemble a car from the renowned Royal Blue, the B&O’s premier passenger train service linking Washington, DC, and New York City.
