At the heart of Montreal’s Elephant Stone is Rishi Dhir, a talented songwriter and sitarist who has spent two decades merging Western psych-pop with Indian classical traditions. What started in 2006 as a quest for transcendental sound has transformed into a unique, self-contained vision. Operating from his Montreal home studio, Sacred Sound, Dhir has become a true studio auteur—producing, engineering, and mixing the band’s increasingly intricate and cinematic output.

While the band gained recognition for their meticulous pop craftsmanship and spiritual exploration, their recent work—featuring longtime members Miles Dupire, Robbie MacArthur, and Jason Kent—exhibits a new, raw intensity. This sound is shaped by Dhir’s extensive collaborations with icons like The Black Angels, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, and Beck, as well as his involvement in the psych-supergroup MIEN.

With a discography of 10 acclaimed releases, Elephant Stone continues to lead the modern movement, constantly deconstructing the past to uncover something visceral, haunting, and undeniably human in the present.
