Every universe begins with a singular point, a quiet corner where instinct speaks loudest. For acclaimed harpist and songwriter Mikaela Davis, her new album Graceland Way (due April 24th via Kill Rock Stars) was born in a hillside home in Chevy Chase Canyon, Los Angeles County. This album ties a neo-western future back to the lineage of Laurel Canyon and the mythos of Elvis’s Graceland.
Davis explores the fragile balance of light and dark, grace and struggle, as well as the mystical power found at their nexus. The record’s musical journey originated at UHF Studio, where Davis and guitarist John Lee Shannon co-wrote and co-produced the album alongside Dan Horne.
The opening track “(Looking Through) Rose Colored Glasses” features a blissful harp glissando, dark Western tones, and transformative harmonies from guest vocalists Madison Cunningham and Tim Heidecker.
As the album progresses, Davis and her collaborators delve into themes of magic and mysticism, with tracks like “11:11” and the haunting “Mizmoon”, written by Cass McCombs.
Davis’ harp powers a wide variety of soundscapes, culminating in the realization that the destination isn’t a place, but a state of mind: Graceland Way.

🌟 Johanna Samuels
Opening the evening is Johanna Samuels, a Los Angeles-based songwriter whose acclaimed album Excelsior! explores connection and the complexities of modern relationships through deeply personal storytelling. Recorded live to tape with producer Sam Evian, the album features intimate songwriting paired with warm arrangements.
Known for her arresting melodies and emotionally direct lyricism, Samuels crafts songs that are both vulnerable and quietly powerful.
