Gather in the Readings Gallery for an engaging session where Tim will guide us through mindfulness practices that enhance awareness and well-being. He will cover:
- The origins of mindfulness
- Stress physiology
- How mindfulness can improve our relationship with experiences, reduce stress, and enhance well-being
Expect a one-hour interactive presentation introducing the principles of mindfulness, along with basic practices. You'll leave with a handout and a toolkit of simple techniques to apply at work and home.
This participatory class includes:
- Definitions of mindfulness
- A helpful handout summarizing the benefits and applications of mindfulness in daily life
- Guided body and breath awareness practices
- Group dialogue and small group discussions
- Suggestions for ongoing practice and applying mindfulness at work and home
Based on the 8-week Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program, which has been shown to:
- Reduce chronic pain
- Boost the immune system
- Address mental states like depression and anxiety
- Minimize emotional reactivity and promote well-being
- Increase flexible attention and sharpen mental focus
Mindfulness Northwest was founded by Tim Burnett in 2011 to share the benefits of mindfulness meditation across the Pacific Northwest. Tim has been teaching MBSR since 2010 and practicing meditation since 1986. He is certified to teach MBSR by the Center for Mindfulness at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, and has additional certifications in Mindful Self-Compassion and Compassion Cultivation Training.
