Stacy Carlson- The Gyre
Join award-winning author Stacy Carlson for an immersive journey into the frozen wilds with her latest book, "The Gyre"! βοΈ
An atmospheric tale that intertwines adventure, folklore, and the Arctic, "The Gyre" follows Arkady Afanasyev, a 19th-century Russian monk, on his quest to become the northernmost holy man in the world. Disgusted by the influx of pilgrims at his monastery, Arkady ventures north to Spitsbergen, a remote island shrouded in mystery.
Equipped only with prayer books, he embarks on a transformative journey across the tundra, haunted by his past and accompanied by a chorus of Orthodox saints and Slavic pagan tricksters. This novel explores themes of spiritual aspiration and the rich layers of folklore present even in the most desolate landscapes. Think "The Revenant" meets Angela Carter among the icebergs! π
