South Street Seaport Museum Announces Queer History: Chanteys and Sailors
Join us at the South Street Seaport Museum for an enriching experience as we delve into the fascinating history of queer life in Lower Manhattan with Queer History: Chanteys and Sailors! 🏳️🌈
This unique event will feature performances by the Ranzo Boys, New York City’s leading trans maritime trio. With a captivating mix of music and storytelling, they will shine a light on the stories that have often been overlooked in traditional maritime history. Expect an engaging afternoon filled with folk music, sea chanteys, and cabaret-style narratives that explore queer experiences during the Golden Age of Sail.
From Walt Whitman’s dockside romances to sailors using their sea voyages as opportunities for self-discovery, this event promises to weave together insight and entertainment in a way that's both thought-provoking and joyful!🎤✨
About the Hosts
The Ranzo Boys, comprising Lafayette Matthews (he/him) and Jules Peiperl (they/them), have been combining their voices and passion for inclusivity since 2013.
