Join us as Ear Transplant kicks off their second season at Dansekapellet with a captivating double bill of multimedia works by Matthew Grouse (UK) and Esthir Lemi (GR), featuring soloists Anna Jalving (violin) and Katerina Anagnostidou (percussion). A short intermission will be held between the two mesmerizing performances.
🌟 No Crash for Cymbals - Esthir Lemi (World Premiere)
In this groundbreaking piece, Esthir Lemi delves into the uniqueness of cymbals as a solo instrument, traditionally part of a larger ensemble. The talented percussionist Katerina Anagnostidou explores a wide range of sound-producing movements to create delicate, airy sounds that stand in stark contrast to the expected loud crash. This performance seeks to redefine the performer’s physical connection with the cymbals while embracing their rich history and ritualistic significance.
🍼 BUMPS - Matthew Grouse
BUMPS showcases the collaborative journey between Matthew Grouse and Anna Jalving during the birth of her second child. Through intricate transcriptions from home recordings and authentic conversations, they portray the challenges of balancing a freelance art career and motherhood. As sounds of children fill the background, they confront the question: can one still lose themselves in music amidst such chaos?
In his work, Grouse often frames the artists' lives as a central theme, merging reality with fiction. Here, Hildegard of Bingen's pioneering composition serves as a backdrop, intertwining themes of feminine strength and the struggle to articulate parental experiences from a male perspective.
Reviewer Valdemar Lønsted from Information (DK) praised Anna Jalving's performance, noting her ability to handle the violin with affection, treating it as a child, and delivering a blend of humor and intelligence that resonates deeply.
