A Conversation with Kao Kalia Yang

Yang is the award-winning author of several memoirs, including The Latehomecomer, The Song Poet, Somewhere in the Unknown World, and Where Rivers Part. She also co-edited the significant anthology What God is Honored Here?: Writings on Miscarriage and Infant Loss By and For Native Women and Women of Color, showcasing vital voices in these discussions.

Kao Kalia Yang's contributions to literature have earned her recognition from notable organizations, including the National Endowment for the Arts and she has been a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award. With a collection of seven Minnesota Book Awards to her name, Yang has been honored as Star Tribune’s 2024 Artist of the Year and holds an honorary doctorate from Carleton College. She is also a fellow with organizations such as McKnight, Soros, and Guggenheim.
