Artist of the Week: Richard Rearick

Join us at the Palmer Museum of History and Art as we welcome Richard Rearick, an Alaska-born artist whose work celebrates the breathtaking landscapes, wildlife, and natural beauty that have shaped his life of exploration and inspiration.

Born and raised in Anchorage, Richard spent his early years camping, fishing, and soaking in the outdoors of Alaska. After studying at the University of Idaho, he returned home to Eagle River, where he raised a family and established a career in architecture. Although professional commitments limited his artistic pursuits, his passion for creativity remained strong.

Inspired by the legacy of his mother, Alaska artist Victoria Rearick, Richard took up painting shortly before her passing, fully immersing himself in the creative process. His acrylics draw inspiration from decades spent hiking the majestic landscapes of Eagle River, the Chugach Mountains, Hatcher Pass, and other iconic Alaskan terrains.

Richard's artwork has garnered multiple awards, including accolades at the Alaska State Fair. His designs, such as "Raven Spirit" and "Mother Moose", have been featured as select collector pins for the Fur Rondy events in 2025 and 2026, respectively. Most recently, the Alaska Railroad chose his artwork "Ship Creek Crossing" for its 2026 annual print.

This week's exhibit showcases a stunning collection of acrylic paintings inspired by Alaska’s rugged landscapes and abundant wildlife. From mountain peaks to forest trails, the exhibit captures the beauty and character of the wild places across Southcentral Alaska that Richard has explored throughout his life. Through a realistic yet expressive style, these works invite you to experience the wonder of Alaska's natural world.
