The Color of My Voice: A Unique Night with Luciana Sousa 🎶

Join us for an unforgettable evening with Luciana Sousa and her quintet, where jazz transcends its traditional boundaries.

With roots in Brazil and currently based in Sweden, Luciana Sousa masterfully blends elements of jazz, including swing, bebop, and blues, enriched with vibrant Brazilian song traditions like bossa nova.

The concept of The Color of My Voice emerged from late-night jam sessions and a deep desire to fully immerse in music. Luciana began her journey with music relatively late and without formal training. She has cultivated her skills through live performances, keen listening, and continuous engagement with her art.

The repertoire pays tribute to influential women whose voices carried immense significance, spanning the origins of blues to the free expressions of jazz. Artists like Nina Simone, Billie Holiday, Abbey Lincoln, Ma Rainey, Elis Regina, and Ella Fitzgerald have paved the way for her interpretations.

Featuring the Luciana Sousa Quintet 🎷

• Laurits Høgel – Piano: A talented pianist from Copenhagen known for his sensitivity and awareness of sound. Their collaboration at Hvide Lam is central to the project’s direction.
• Yasuhiro Mori – Double Bass: Originally from Japan, he has built a remarkable international career since moving to Sweden in the 1980s.
• Henrik Wartel – Drums: A versatile drummer with a rich background in jazz, blues, free improvisation, and performance art.
• Stefan Johnsson – Trumpet: A composer and educator trained at the Gothenburg University of Music.

In 2026, plans are in place for a recording session in Copenhagen with Laurits Høgel.

The Color of My Voice promises to be a living dialogue between voice, music, and narrative, happening live at Utopia Jazz Club.
