Join us for the Collective Embroidery Workshop, an inviting space for crafting, conversation, and community creativity! 🎨✨ Hosted by the talented artist Ebba Hägne and curated by Letian Ding, a student from the International Master's Programme in Curating Art at Stockholm University, this workshop promises to be an enriching experience.
What does solidarity mean to you? This workshop encourages participants to reflect on this poignant question through the art of making. With needle and thread in hand, everyone is invited to contribute their stitches to a shared embroidery cloth, transforming it into a beautiful collective artwork over the course of the afternoon. 🧵🤝 No prior experience is required; the workshop unfolds at its own pace, fostering a blend of conversation and creativity.
At the end, you won’t just have an artwork but also a trace of all the participants who contributed and left their mark behind. 🌺 The embroidery takes place on the stickstol (embroidery chair), a contemporary reinterpretation of a traditional form used in both Sweden and China, crafted by Ebba Hägne. This workshop exists in dialogue with the current exhibitions by Linnéa Sjöberg and Olof Marsja, focusing on themes of craft, material memory, and the skills passed down through generations.
Embroidery is a knowledge of hands, practiced historically outside the confines of what’s deemed legitimate art. It belongs to both collective memory and individual skill.
🗣️ The event will be conducted in English, with support available in Swedish and Chinese.
🌍 Location: Accelerator Café, Frescativägen 26, 114 18 Stockholm, Sverige
