The Femme Fatale concert series brings one of the most prominent figures in contemporary post-classical music to Prague. Icelandic pianist and composer Eydís Evensen returns to Palác Akropolis on April 29 to present her brand new album Oceanic Mirror to Czech audiences.
Eydís Evensen is one of Iceland's most remarkable musical exports in recent years. Although classically trained, her work is clearly guided by emotion and instinct. She creates deeply emotional musical landscapes on the borderline between modern classical music, ambient minimalism, and film composition. Her music is rooted in both technique and feeling – it is work that not only speaks, but also "listens." She comes from the windy north of Iceland, from the town of Blönduós, where the harsh landscape shapes everyday life. She wrote her first composition at the age of seven during a violent snowstorm, which symbolically foreshadowed her musical style: beauty in fragility, movement from silence, and a deep connection with nature.
Her debut album Bylur (Sony XXIM Records, 2021) – named after the Icelandic word for snowstorm – is an intimate collection of piano compositions and string arrangements charting her journey from childhood to adulthood. The follow-up album The Light (2023) expanded her sound with choral elements, electronics, and, for the first time, her own voice. On her new album Oceanic Mirror, Eydís Evensen further deepens her distinctive sound and opens herself up to new influences. The album was created in close collaboration with prominent figures from the Icelandic and Nordic scene, among whom Janus Rasmussen (Kiasmos) stands out in particular, whose feel for electronic texture and minimalist beats adds a gentle pulsating energy to the recording. The album thus combines piano intimacy with light ambient electronics and new soundscapes that arise from the dialogue between Eydís Evensen's sensitivity and Rasmussen's precise electronic style. The album is complemented by other Icelandic musicians and arrangers who helped create an organic, deeply atmospheric whole. Oceanic Mirror is Eydís Evensen's most complex and daring project to date – a recording that retains its intimacy while expanding her world into new depths.
The concert experience
Her performances are known for their immersive and quiet intensity. Eydís creates a space where music is not just something to listen to, but a shared experience – her concerts are intimate, deeply atmospheric, and always different, shaped by the venue and the energy of the audience.
