This is not a tour. It is a shared journey of taste, stories and connection — unfolding from territory to table, with no audience and no performance. Just people, a place, and an experience that engages every sense.
Kicking off at 10:00am on Sunday, May 24th in Alcochete, the early start is intentional: the salt flats are at their most magical when the light is soft, the air is still, and the local wildlife — including the many bird species that call this ecosystem home — is easiest to observe.
We make our way to the Salinas do Samouco, where centuries of human craft, natural history and living landscape coexist in quiet harmony. As we move through this extraordinary terrain, stories of the land emerge — its rhythms, its memory, its relationship with food and tradition. Along the way, we engage all our senses: listening, touching, and even tasting wild halophyte plants that have long inspired both traditional and contemporary cuisine. Flamingos and other birds may well be spotted along the route. 🦩
After the sensory immersion of the morning walk, we gather at O Marítimo, a traditional Portuguese restaurant in Alcochete, where lunch becomes its own kind of arrival — a moment to settle, connect and share. Flavours feel deeper when rooted in place and season, and this is where conversation flows most naturally.
We wind down with a slow, unhurried stroll along Alcochete's waterfront, taking in open views across the Tagus River toward Lisbon — a final breath of space to reflect, digest and simply enjoy being together in a beautiful setting.
